Why
For the past two thousand years, the global Christian Church has done much to pioneer evangelism and church planting around the world. For this we rejoice! In fact, we find ourselves in a new era of Christendom where 80% of the global Church of Jesus Christ is non-western. However, the majority of the global Church faces great stresses and acute social need. The nations, especially where the Church is growing dramatically, are groaning due to intractable poverty, rampant disease, political corruption, dysfunctional societies, terrorism, wasted resources, and misguided foreign aid. These nations and their citizens are longing for the blessings promised by God through the Church, the people of faith. (Genesis 12:1-3)
In the face of these daunting challenges, the Church of Jesus Christ does not fully grasp that the promise of God for substantial healing and transformation of the nations will come through it. In general, we note that the Church has learned how to bring the freedom of Christ to those in bondage to sin, but it has not envisioned or understood how to bring the freedom of Christ to the social results of bondage to sin. The Church has focused on evangelism, church planting, worship and the proclamation of the Word of God., but failed to demonstrate the love of Christ outside the church walls and trained the people to live obediently before the face of God in all sectors of life.
However, there is a sense that now God wants to move the nations towards His larger and glorious intentions through His Church. There is a hunger among church leaders to know how to address the broken contexts and cultures. Business and professional people want a faith that is significant in the Monday-Saturday world. Children are receptive to disciple-ship in a biblical worldview and Christ-like character. There is an openness to seek the Kingdom of God coming on earth as in heaven.
Passionately we believe that God wants nations where:
• One finds the Body of Christ, a community of believers, within easy access of every person;
• Christian congregations are teaching and discipling all who respond to the Gospel of the Kingdom to obey everything that Christ has commanded;
• Truth is proclaimed in word and deed and the reality of a Biblical worldview is dawning in each nation;
• Christ lives by His Holy Spirit in and through His Church in such a way that He heals the communities’ deepest wounds, redeems their distinct culture, restores their God-given dignity, destiny, hope and joy;
• Christ is Lord of all life so that there is individual righteousness, economic sufficiency for all, social peace and public justice, even for the poor and marginalized;
• And the splendor of God is being displayed for all to see. (Isaiah 61:1-4)
