Outreach Community Church has 7 Pastors and 40 workers located in some of the poorest slums in Nairobi. In October 2002, Dennis Tongoi and Pastor Joe Orlale facilitated a Vision Conference, training in the Samaritan Strategy Wholistic Discipleship course for these leaders. The participants resolved that their church buildings would not remain empty on weekdays but would be used in serving the community. One of the leaders, Pastor Luke, decided to "Love his neighbors" instead of only preaching which he had previously considered as "real ministry." He began a school for poor children in his area who could not afford to go to school. Sheepcare Community Centre began with 15 children; today they have over 250. The school motto is "To have dominion and subdue the earth for Godly positive change in Soweto, Nairobi, Kenya, Africa and the whole world in Jesus' name." Despite the poverty, the school already has had a major impact not only in the lives of the children but also in the community. The owner of an adjacent illicit alcohol-brewing den has surrendered his premises to the school -- not only giving more space but also reducing the alcoholism in the area.

The Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College assists the church worldwide in declaring the Kingdom of God by bringing economic development and spiritual transformation in the context of low-income communities. Through research and education, the Center trains college students, missionaries, churches and Christian ministries to implement holistic, church-centered strategies that truly empower low-income people to support themselves via their own work.

Samaritan Strategy Africa is a collaborative initiative whose goal is to mobilize and equip the whole church in Africa to adopt a biblical worldview and practice a wholistic, incarnational ministry that provides tangible demonstrations of Christ's love to a broken people. This will be accomplished through a "school of thought" that involves the development and distribution of educational resources, conferences, training, and networking.
Their strategy involves a number of different approaches including: vision conferences for equipping and enabling churches to begin the transformation process; small groups to provide ongoing engagement in deeper learning and application of the training materials; disciplines of love to demonstrate Christ's love by local churches; Bible school circulation; training of trainers for sustainable multiplication of trainers; and specialized teams focusing on integrating biblical principles into specific sectors such as agriculture, business, politics, health, arts, sports, and family.
